It has been a long, grueling Open season, but here we are in the 5th and final week. As we gear up for the last announcement we are all hoping for our bread and butter, but know we are more likely going to get the Dave Castro shit sandwich that has been served for the last 4 weeks in a row.
Several of our athletes at SLC CrossFit have eaten that sandwich with a smile and asked for more. The result? Outstanding positions on the Southwest and World CrossFit Open leader board. Here is a quick update on where our top 7 athletes rank, with a special kudos to our ladies who happen to be killing it!
Current top 50 SLC CF athletes in the Southwest region:
Cassidy Duffield- 10th
Dana Howell- 22nd
Ashley Shaeffer- 24th
Lauren Shawver- 43rd
Liz Glenn- 1st in the Teenage Girls division (10th in the world)
Justin Dickson- 3rd in the Masters division (32nd in the world)
Doug Springer- 44th
SLC CF Team- 4th
So what happens after the 5th workout you ask…
The top 20 men and women from each region in the Open division will qualify as individuals to compete at CrossFit Regionals.
The top 200 men in the world from the Open Masters division will then participate in the Masters Qualifier with an invite offered to the top 20 in each age bracket to the CrossFit Games.
The top 10 teenage girls from each of the age brackets (there are 2) in the world have the golden ticket to go to the CrossFit Games!
The top 20 teams from each region will advance to CrossFit Regionals.
The Southwest region will participate in the South Regional in Dallas, Texas May 13-15th.
If you happen to see any of these amazing athletes around our box be sure to give them the kudos they deserve! While you’re at it give all the athletes from SLC CF that have participated in the 2016 Open a little love… it’s hard work!
