Colin Cunningham

"If you're tired. Have a snack and a nap."

Raised in Vermont on an animal rehabilitation farm, Colin understood the aspect of hard work at an early age. Daily chores and caring for animals gave him an early start in the realm of mental toughness. His youth activities never included any team sports but rather he focused his time on learning various martial arts. Colin holds a black belt in Karate, Modern Arnis, and has studied Yang Style Tai Chi and Bagua Zhang under T.T. Liang’s disciple J. Richard Roy.

Colin started his professional career working as a pastry chef and various other kitchen jobs after he graduated from the New England Culinary Institute. After a hearty life lesson in the failure of his own business, Colin turned to his next hobby: fitness. He began working as a NASM personal trainer for Boston Sports Club and as a strength coach for a local MMA gym. He came across Crossfit when his employer asked him to go check out Crossfit and see if it would be good for the competitive fighters. Colin tried a few classes and never looked back.

He moved from Boston, MA to Oakland, CA and began working at Crossfit Oakland, the first Crossfit gym in the Bay Area, and started competing heavily. Colin has placed in the top 40 of the Crossfit Open NorCal Region for the past three years and has competed at regionals as an individual and as part of a team. A recent move to Salt Lake City has brought him to SLC Crossfit because he believes in good coaching and great community. He approaches coaching on all levels from an angle in which you compete with yourself and try to progress daily.
