What We Look for in Our Interns (and Future Team Members)

At Fitness Elevated, we’re not just looking for people who love fitness—we’re looking for future professionals who want to lead, grow, and make an impact. Whether you’re coaching a class or supporting a teammate, the qualities below are what we value most in our interns and staff.

1. Coachable and Humble

We seek individuals who are open to feedback, eager to learn, and willing to grow. You don’t need to know everything—we’ll help you get there—but you must be willing to listen and apply.

2. Initiative-Driven

We value people who take action without waiting to be told. You look for ways to contribute, find solutions, and go the extra mile—even when no one is watching.

3. Strong Communicator

You’re someone who can clearly and confidently interact with members, teammates, and leadership. Great coaches know how to listen, explain, and build trust.

4. Growth-Oriented

Whether it’s mastering a new movement, learning how to program workouts, or studying how to lead a team, you're someone who invests in their own development and is always working to level up.

5. Positive and Team-Focused

We hire people who make the room better. You bring energy, encourage others, and show up ready to contribute to the team—not just yourself.

6. Professional and Reliable

You show up prepared, on time, and ready to do your best. Our members and staff count on us every day—and we count on you.

Coach Career Roadmap: From Intern to Location Manager

At Fitness Elevated, we don’t just offer internships—we create careers. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re ready to build something long-term, our roadmap is designed to help you grow into the coach and leader you’re capable of becoming.

Step 1: Intern

Learn the foundations of coaching in a real-world environment. You'll shadow experienced coaches, participate in team meetings, and begin developing your skills with hands-on support and feedback.

You’ll learn:

  • Movement assessment and cueing

  • How to manage group classes

  • Real-time feedback from senior coaches

  • Communication and professionalism

Step 2: Assistant Coach

Start assisting in classes and working directly with members. You’ll begin applying what you’ve learned while continuing to grow your confidence and capability in live settings.

You’ll gain experience in:

  • Leading warm-ups and portions of class

  • Supporting the lead coach

  • Building relationships with members

  • Understanding the rhythm of professional coaching

Step 3: Level 1 Coach

Take the lead. You’ll run group classes independently, start to design simple workouts, and take on more responsibility in the gym. At this stage, many coaches begin working with private clients or leading small-group programs.

You’ll focus on:

  • Coaching full classes with confidence

  • Creating and contributing content (blogs, videos, social posts)

  • Beginning to build your personal brand within the gym

  • Learning introductory sales skills to support client acquisition

Step 4: Level 2 Coach

Refine your skills and expand your impact. You’ll begin to specialize in areas like youth performance, skill-specific training, or mobility. You’ll also mentor newer coaches and help elevate the team around you.

This stage includes:

  • Leading specialty programs

  • Coaching advanced-level movement

  • Guiding interns and assistant coaches

  • Developing stronger sales and communication skills

  • Expanding your personal brand through consistent value-driven content

Step 5: Full-Time Coach

Turn your passion into a career. Our full-time coaches often earn between $60,000–$100,000 annually through a combination of classes, private training, and programs. You’ll have built a personal brand and client base within the gym.

You’ll enjoy:

  • Flexible scheduling

  • High earning potential

  • Ongoing mentorship

  • Leading content creation that positions you as a trusted expert

  • A clear growth path to leadership

Step 6: Location Manager

For those who lead by example, build community, and demonstrate ownership, there’s an opportunity to manage one of our locations. You’ll oversee a team, drive gym performance, and play a critical role in the lives of members and staff.

As a location manager, you’ll:

  • Lead staff and culture

  • Manage gym operations and performance metrics

  • Mentor coaches in sales, service, and leadership

  • Earn performance-based bonuses

  • Contribute to company-wide growth and strategy
